When
you order Eggs below as a
CSA Add-On, you are only
ordering one dozen. When you
go into the shopping cart,
you will need change the
quantity of eggs to match
the number or weeks you are
in CSA. For example, if you
join the Main Season Produce
CSA, then you should change
the quantity of eggs in the
shopping cart to 24. If you
want 2 dozen/week, you would
change it to 48. |

CSA
Work Exchange Option -
work 96 hours for a full share for
the 24 week season (4 hours per
week) or work 60 hours for a half
share for the 24 week season (2.5
hours per week). This is real farm
work so please expect to work, if
you choose this option. You will be
working along side our farm team.
Work hours need to be completed
during regular farm work hours:
Monday - 10 AM - 7 PM
Tuesday - 9:30 AM - 7 PM
Wednesday - 11:00 AM - 7 PM
Friday - 9:30 AM - 7:00 PM
You can lump more than
one week's worth of hours into one
trip to the farm. However, you must
not fall behind in work hours (no
exceptions). So this means that you
must have completed at least 4 hours
of work before your pickup happens
each week. Sometimes you may also
get extra produce (in addition to
your CSA share) if the farm has
extra (but please do not expect it).
Please let Michael know if you have
any questions or would like to sign
up for this option.
General CSA Information
Living Roots typically provides
about 100 families with produce each
CSA Season. Sometimes we do fill up,
so please contact us to see if
memberships are currently available.
The produce is grown
at Living Roots market farm. Our
produce is never sprayed with
chemicals and though isn't certified
organic (we were for two years and
aren't anymore due to too much
paperwork and $), you can be assured
we are growing according to very
high eco-friendly standards. In
addition to receiving produce (click
here for list of produce),
extras will include herbal products
and recipes pertaining to the
particular seasonal produce..
During the previous
seasons, the CSA has averaged giving
members between 10% and 25% more
than they paid for (all seasons -
even in the drought year). We can't
always guarantee this abundance;
however, we are confident our
farming knowledge and work ethic
will constantly provide, even when
others are having a challening
season due to weather or other
farming challenges.
If you are like me,
you love to eat good food! Joining
the CSA is one way you to can do
that. On a regular basis, we often
eat healthy, gourmet meals - in our
opinion better quality than one
might find at most restaurants and
only find at upscale restaurants.
The key is using extremely fresh and
organic ingredients, including
fruits, vegetables, and culinary
herbs. We help guide those members
in the CSA down a road of not only
much healthier eating, but also much
tastier cooking - we welcome those
who share our culinary passions!
CSAs have become
extremely popular in the past years
(according to Local Harvest, there
are at least 2,500 in the US). By
joining a CSA, the member gets the
opportunity to develop a closer
relationship with their farmer and
their food. Saving them time
shopping in a grocery store, they
get a very reasonably priced weekly
box of very fresh produce straight
from the farm. What a wonderful way
to make your life more healthy and
at the same time, support local
sustainable agriculture! For more
information on the CSA concept,
please see:
Community
Supported Agriculture
Our CSA also includes
multiple opportunities each year to
attend a potluck at the farm. One of
the intents to this CSA is to form
networks and community with other
like minded individuals. This event
will also include a tour of the
gardens. In addition, we will have a
work day at our farm (it's optional
but strongly encouraged), which will
also include a tour. You will be
notified of these dates by email.

A
List of Some of the Produce
Items You Might Receive in
Your Weekly Box
- No Certain Items are
Guaranteed As Some Years
Some Crops Do Better Than
Others
- An Average Weekly basket
contains 7 - 9 produce items
- We are always trying new
varieties (many heirloom -
never GMO) of many of the
below vegetables, so you
will receive many different
varieties for many of the
items below.
- An overall trend is that
you will receive more of
items that are more common
and versitale in dishes
(such as tomatoes, peppers,
or greens) as opposed to
newer ones to the American
palate (such as something
like a parnsip though this
happens to be one of my
personal favorites). This
varies from year to year, as
the growing seasons are
different and we take into
account feedback we receive.
